Week of March 6th

I can not believe this week will be the start of March! This week's email will have important information regarding conferences and dates for this week so please read!

Important Dates:

March 6-10--WISH WEEK
March 8th- Outdoor Ed Parent meeting for incoming 6th grade students.
March 13-16    -   Scholastic Book Fair
March 14th &16th  Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences

March 17th -  NO SCHOOL Teacher Work Day

March 18th -April 2nd- Spring Break

This week our class has PE. Next week, we will have art.


Class Updates

There will be an Outdoor Ed meeting for all parents of incoming 6th graders on Wednesday, March 8th, at 6pm in the library. 
The director Outdoor Ed at Covenant Heights will be leading the presentation. Athe meetingfor parents only, we will go over the facilities, activities, and cost of the trip. It is a chance to ask questions, and get information about requirements. I realize that this seems early, your child still has another semester before they are 6th graders, but there is a lot of planning that goes into this trip.  We hope to see everyone there! 

Please make sure your students have headphones here at school. We use them almost everyday and will need them for testing in a few weeks. 

Conferences will be held March 14th and 16th.  These conferences will be student lead, so your child needs to attend with you.  Please see the link below to sign up. 


Literacy:

We will be starting writing our own persuasive essays on subjects that the students feel impact them personally, such as being able to chew gum in school etc. We will be talking about how students can make a difference in their community through expressing themselves in an effective manner.


Math:

Your student may have math homework. We will be focusing on Dividing Decimals this week. 


Science:

We will be working on identifying the states of matter. We will be looking at the properties of each state of matter. We will also look at how matter affects our everyday life. 

Homework this week

Students may have math homework this week. If they do not come home with homework to do they can practice math facts online using X-tra Math, or worksheets can be printed off for them.

 Always have students read for 15 - 20 minutes a night this can include their book club books. They are expected to be prepared to discuss their assigned chapters the following day.Students will receive a new list of words for spelling Tuesday. Groups A/B/C will test will be on Friday 2/10  Students can access their list online from the Spelling City website to practice their words.

Literacy:

We have finished our awesome unit of body systems this week. We are now moving into Physical science and learning how to do science experiments that follow the scientific method. We will

Class Updates

We will be having an in school field trip from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science on February 10th. Our class will be learning about the heart and it's functions.  We will also be participating in a heart dissection.  Please click on the link below to register your child.

Our Valentines Day Party will be 2/14 from 8:40-9:30. It will be a breakfast party. Students have the option to draw another student's name out of a hat and bring them in a treat box with food items in it. A menu will be provided for students to choose from. If your child wishes to bring in Valentines for EVERYONE that is fine as well. I will be sending home an email with more details.

Literacy:

We will be looking at current events that have to do with our science unit and learning how to analyze them. Book Clubs are meeting this week. Your child will be sent home with chapters to read every week with a discussion job following the week day in their groups.


Math:

Your student may have math homework. We will be focusing on Decimals this week. 


Science:

 This week we will be continuing with learning body systems. We will focus on the Digestive and Execratory systems and will prepare for the Heart Lab. Next week we have Google Expeditions to get an up close view of the Circulatory system and Respiratory System.
