Week of January 30th

I am so happy that it is FINALLY getting warmer this week! I hope you all have had a great weekend. This weekend my family adopted a puppy! So it has been an excited week for me (and exhausting)

This week our class has PE. Next week, we will have Technology.

Class Updates

We will be having an in school field trip from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science on February 10th. Our class will be learning about the heart and it's functions.  We will also be participating in a heart dissection.  Please click on the link below to register your child. 

Literacy:

We will finishing our opinion writing piece on cells and their use in science labs. Book Clubs are meeting this week. Your child will be sent home with chapters to read every week with a discussion job following the week day in their groups.

Math:

Your student may have math homework. We will be focusing on Decimals this week. 

Science:

 This week we will be continuing with learning body systems. We will focus on the Digestive and Execratory systems to prepare for the Heart Lab. 

Homework this week

Students may have math homework this week. If they do not come home with homework to do they can practice math facts online using X-tra Math, or worksheets can be printed off for them.

 Always have students read for 15 - 20 minutes a night this can include their book club books. They are expected to be prepared to discuss their assigned chapters the following day.Students will receive a new list of words for spelling Tuesday. Groups A/B/C will test will be on Friday 1/27.  Students can access their list online from the Spelling City website to practice their words.

Class Updates

This week in your Thursday folders you will find a survey asking your family your plans for next year. This is so the school administration can get an idea of numbers for next year. Please return it with your student. - Thanks

Science:
This week we will be finishing our cell unit and working on our assessment piece of the unit. This is due January 27th. Your student will have time in class to work on this. This week we will be starting body systems. We will focus on the Respiratory system and Circulatory system. We have a guest speaker coming in to talk to boys and girls separately about puberty the 24th. There has been a letter sent out to you regarding the guest speaker.

Week of January 9th

This week our class has Tech. Tech is now a brand new option for us which is very exciting. Next week, we will have Art.


Class Updates

Please remind your student to bring their coats this week. Although it is warmer the wind is chilly!


Literacy:
In writing we are starting to analyze our writing and learning how we can create meaning as authors. We will be working on editing our own writing to avoid using sentence fragments, and run-on sentences. Soon we will be starting book clubs, but for this week we will be working on looking for key details, summarizing, and finding the authors purpose.
Math:
We have begun our study of Algebra. We are learning how to evaluate and simplify expressions this week.

Social Studies:
This week, we will be finishing up the Revolutionary War and its effects today. We will be looking specifically at the Treaty of Paris, and the Battle of Yorktown.

Science:
We have started our study of life sciences. Students are continuing to learn about the structures of plant and animal cells. We are looking at how the systems in cells are similar to other systems in the world as our summative assessment.  Students will have time in class to complete this.
