Class Updates

Please remind your student to bring their coats this week. Although it is warmer the wind is chilly!

Literacy:
In writing we are starting to analyze our writing and learning how we can create meaning as authors. We will be working on editing our own writing to avoid using sentence fragments, and run-on sentences. Soon we will be starting book clubs, but for this week we will be working on looking for key details, summarizing, and finding the authors purpose.
Math:
We have begun our study of Algebra. We are learning how to evaluate and simplify expressions this week.

Social Studies:
This week, we will be finishing up the Revolutionary War and its effects today. We will be looking specifically at the Treaty of Paris, and the Battle of Yorktown.

Science:
We have started our study of life sciences. Students are continuing to learn about the structures of plant and animal cells. We are looking at how the systems in cells are similar to other systems in the world as our summative assessment.  Students will have time in class to complete this.

Homework this week
Students may have math homework this week. If they do not come home with homework to do they can practice math facts online using Xtra Math, or worksheets can be printed off for them.

Always have students try to read for 15 - 20 minutes a night.

Students will receive a new list of words for spelling Tuesday. Groups A/B/C will test will be on Tuesday 1/17 due to not receiving their list today and having no school Friday.  Students can also access their list online from the Spelling City website to practice their words.

Have a great Week!
